The short answer

In the creator economy, a custom is a piece of content made to order for one person. A fan asks a creator for something specific — a video with a particular theme, a photo set, a personalized clip with their name in it — agrees a price, and the creator makes it just for them. Creators on platforms like OnlyFans, Fansly, and ManyVids shorten "custom content orders" to just customs: "I'm filming customs this week," "customs are open," "my customs queue is full."

To be clear about the other meaning: this has nothing to do with import duties, customs clearance, or shipping. If you're trying to track a parcel through border customs, you're in the wrong place — this page (and this site) is about custom content orders.

How a custom actually happens

• The ask. A fan messages the creator with a request. Sometimes it's precise, sometimes it's "could you do something like…?" — either way, this starts as a chat.
• The quote. The creator prices it: length, complexity, exclusivity (whether the fan alone gets it, or the creator can also sell it later) all move the number.
• The deposit. Most creators take part of the payment up front — commonly a half — before any work starts. On tip-based platforms this arrives as a tip.
• The making. The creator films, shoots, or edits. Good creators batch several customs into one production day.
• Delivery and settle-up. The finished content goes to the fan in the same conversation it was sold in, and the remaining balance gets paid.

A small glossary

• Lead — someone asking about a custom that isn't agreed yet. Many never convert, which is why creators keep them separate from confirmed orders.
• Deposit — the up-front part of the payment that makes a custom real.
• Outstanding balance — agreed price minus everything paid so far. The number creators most often lose track of.
• Exclusivity — whether the fan alone keeps the content, or the creator can also publish it. Exclusive costs more.
• Customs open / closed — whether the creator is currently taking new orders. Closing customs while a queue clears is normal and healthy.
